Iowa's Misbehaving Women

Friday, March 1st is The History Center's event Iowa's Misbehaving Women. Author Cheryl Mullenbach has uncovered the stories of some of the state's intriguing women and invites you to meet these heroic, amusing, imaginative, nervy individuals. Examples of women that you might not know about are Emma Harvat, Iowa City's first female mayor, and Helen Hayes Gleason, Coe graduate who served in World War II. Although history may have forgotten these misbehaving women, we'll take time to remember. The program begins at 6:00 PM, with a pre-reception starting at 5:30 PM and a post reception at 7:00 PM. Seating is limited so be sure to secure your ticket today! Cost to attend is $5 for History Center

Another Successful School Visit!

Education visitors is a large part of what we do at The History Center. And no day is more fun a hectic than when we have school visits. Last week we had the excitement of hosting more than 80 3rd Graders from Prairie Ridge Elementary. the children take time to learn about artifacts from our curator, the history of their school and the county from our historian, take time to "quilt" to give them more insight on our Quilting Exhibit, and enjoy some free time exploring our wonderful exhibits. While they certainly keep us busy, seeing our rich heritage being taught and passed on allows us to see our vision and mission continue.
