CR Municipal Band Concert

Join us for a very special FREE event! Pre-concert lecture on the history of the CR Municipal Band presented by conductor Steve Shanley. Concert on the lawn to follow! Doors open 6:00 p.m. (cash bar available) Presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Concert on the lawn at 7:30 p.m. (bring your own chair) Steve Shanley is an assistant professor of music at Coe College (Cedar Rapids, IA), where he coordinates the music education and jazz studies programs, and he is also the conductor of the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, a professional ensemble that performs over 20 concerts each year. Prior to his arrival at Coe, Shanley spent 11 years teaching middle and high school music in the Cedar Rapids

Join us June 6th for our next installment of Oral Histories LIVE! featuring Anne Harris Carter.

Douglas Starch Works 100th Anniversary

Join The History Center on May 22nd at 6:00 PM to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Douglas Starch Works Explosion. There will be a bell ringing and a reading of the names of all the workers who tragically lost their lives that day. Following this event there will be an encore presentation of Douglas Company Explosion and South Kingston Walking Tour. This event is free and open to the public. The walking tour following this event is $5 for History Center members and $7 for the general public.

Summer Camp - Herstory

Hear the stories of Lileah Harris, Betty Auchard, Ellen Douglas and Sadie Smulekoff. Create your own timeline and tell us your story. AGES: 3rd-6th Grade 2 Session times to choose from! $30 for Members of The History Center $40 for Non-Members CLICK HERE to register online!

Oh no! The museum is missing an important artifact! Calling all adventure seekers and History Detectives! Participants will piece together clues, examine artifacts, and investigate the mystery of the lost artifact.
