Meet the Author

Join us for a book reading with Linn county author Barbara Feller. Barbara recently released The Creation of an Artist: Grant Wood's Boyhood Story.
Born in the Bronx and raised in upstate New York, author Barbara Feller fell in love with Iowa and Iowans while working as an educator in area schools and museums, especially at The History Center! A part time teacher at Temple Judah since 1979, Barbara retired from her more public museum venue in 2013 with a desire to share inspiring stories of the history of her adopted community.
When not teaching or writing, Barbara tries to keep up with husband Steve, daughters Heidi and Ray, sons-in-law Howard and Michael and four incredible grandchildren: Max, Isaac, Leonardo and Ramona.
Barbara has traveled extensively and enjoys gardening, reading, and cooking in her quieter moments. Barbara is a member of the Wednesday Shakespeare Club, Martha Marquis Book Club of Coe College, and SCBWI (The Society of Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators). Creation of an Artist is Barbara’s second publication.
Here is what Sue Taylor, author of Grant Wood's Secrets has to say about Barbara's new book:
"With remarkable empathy and charm, Barbara Feller in The Creation of Artist imagines the joys, worries, and aspirations of a sensitive child in rural Iowa at the turn of the twentieth century. As Grant Wood's boy-world of family, neighbors, animals, school, and countryside comes vividly to life in these pages, we discover the tender emotional roots of his later artistic accomplishments."
