On August 10, 2020, the great state of Iowa was hit by a derecho of unimaginable strength.  To process the damage and document the beloved neighborhoods she grew up in, Bex Hurn grabbed her camera and set out to capture them before all the trees disappeared. 

 

What started out as a way to comprehend and deal with grief, became a community project that tied individuals and neighborhoods together.  It is the hope of the artist that these photos will serve as a remembrance to these decades’ old trees and the connection we have to them.
