Grab your gal pals, it's Ladies Night at The History Center! Join us as we welcome author Cheryl Mullenbach to present on Iowa’s Misbehaving Women.

“Well-behaved women seldom make history,” Harvard historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich wrote back in 1976. With that in mind, Cheryl Mullenbach set out to uncover some Iowa women who refused to be well behaved and should have made history. In her talk “Misbehaving Women of Iowa” Cheryl introduced the first woman elected to public office, a riverboat captain, a travel trunk designer, and a nurse in the Spanish-American War. With “MORE Misbehaving Women of Iowa” she brings to life the stories of a young explorer in the northern regions of Canada, a World War I nurse serving in Hungary, a roller derby queen, a professional wrestler, and others. It’s time to give these misbehaving women recognition!

Cheryl Mullenbach is an award-winning author of non-fiction books for kids and adults. The American Library Association, International Literacy Association, and National Council for Social Studies have recognized her books.
