Research

The History Center's archives are available to the public for research. Research may only be conducted by appointment. Please complete the Research Request form below to let us know what information you are looking for. A member of our Research Team will then reach out to you. We recommend that you fill out your request 2-3 weeks before you need the information, as it will take time to find and pull the documents you request.

If you are interested in studying your family history, we recommend contacting the Genealogical Society of Linn County The Genealogical Society's library contains a collection of Linn County school and church records, mortuary records, cemetery records, Linn County obituaries, Bible records, diaries, family genealogies, miscellaneous photographs, Cedar Rapids city birth records 1921-July 1970 and death records 1894-June 1970 along with information from other states.

If you are interested in browsing newspaper archives, we recommend visiting the Cedar Rapids Public Library, or by using the digital archive. These options provide a more complete collection for general interest research.

Please note, there is no charge to submit a Research Request form, however, if you wish to go through the materials yourself, or would like a member of the Research Team to complete the research for you, fees will be required as noted below.
