From the quiet grounds of Linwood and Czech National Cemeteries to the bustling industries of Kings Material and Douglas Starch Works, each site reveals a piece of the city’s past. We’ll look back at the role of 6th Street SW as a vital corridor, the long-standing tradition of racing and events at Hawkeye Downs, and the surprising transformation of Mount Trashmore into a recreational landmark. Together, these stories paint a vivid picture of the people, businesses, and places that made Southwest Cedar Rapids what it is today.
